On November 29, 2023, CIS students at Zayed University had the unique opportunity to visit the Federal Competitiveness and Statistical Center (FCSC) under the guidance of Dr. Dana Saleh. This visit was a pivotal experience in expanding the students' knowledge of Data Science and statistics, as well as gaining insights into the vital services provided by the center. The students were excited by the numerous possibilities this visit presented.
The impact of this visit is evident, as it has sparked renewed enthusiasm and curiosity among our students to explore the fields of data science and statistics further. We are excited to share some of our student participants' enriching experiences at FCSC.
“I was amazed by the center's impressive interior. I often always thought centers that had key terms such as “statistics”, would be filled with old computers, however, FCSC had altered my preconceived notions of a statistics-oriented place. As we were guided through the different sectors, I was genuinely inspired by the level of creativity integrated into the center's operations and rooms! One memorable moment occurred when we gathered around a table to delve into the center's initiatives and ambitions, spanning topics from sustainability development to data analysis and various indexes. It was then that I decided to weigh in further, posing questions such as the center's alignment with the sustainable development goals they aimed to achieve. The response astonished me; their ambitions reached far beyond their own benefit, extending support to less developed countries. I found such a mindset truly is worth admiring.”

“My visit to FCSC in the UAE was enlightening. The unique ambiance coupled with a comprehensive overview of their data collection methods showcased the organization's commitment to statistical excellence. Learning about internship, volunteer opportunities, and university training programs, along with insights into the MOCAX program for graduates, added depth to my understanding of their impactful initiatives. The impressive aspect of FCSC in the UAE was not just the ambiance but also the employee-driven ethos. Their adherence to the 17 goals set by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reflected a profound commitment to societal betterment. It was inspiring to witness an organization aligning its operations with such noble objectives.”

“Our visit today at FCSC was a great opportunity for me to learn more about different work sectors and even more about data collection and reaching different goals like sustainability and raising the international status of UAE in global competitiveness reports, I learned a lot about different jobs and how they use data for things like sustainability and even data security for many users like us. Teamwork and using technology is important in how they plan their day to day work. Planning well is key to reaching their goals. The visit inspired me to think about how I can help in similar projects in the future. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience and made me appreciate the importance of data in making things better for our future.”

“Visiting the FCSC was a very enjoyable experience that helped me gain more insight into the work of the center and how hard and admirable the employees work in order to produce real effective data, and enhance the UAE's in many other metrics by adapting and implementing effective strategies to improve areas where the UAE or the center may lack which led them to improve the ranks of the UAE world wide. I will definitely be using their data through their website "Bayanat.ae" to help me have accurate insight while working on my university's projects and assignments. I appreciate the knowledge they have given us all during the visit and I wish them the best of luck as their work promises a brighter future.”
